Headline - Superintendent sees exciting changes and bright horizons at Lawrence Public Schools
LAWRENCE - Big things are happening in the small community of Lawrence. Lawrence Public Schools is ushering in a new era of growth, opportunity, and personalized support for students and families. With leadership changes, innovative student support systems, and expanded learning opportunities, the future looks bright and the 2025-26 school year promises to be an exciting year, according to the district’s superintendent.
Ryan Williamson, who is beginning his second year at the district’s helm, said, “At the heart of this transformation is the hiring of a new K-12 principal, bringing fresh vision and a student-centered approach to LPS. “Working closely with a newly hired behavior interventionist, dean of students, and school counselor, the district is strengthening its commitment to social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and individualized student support. Together, this team will ensure a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all learners.”
“LPS is proud to offer personalized instruction with a 15:1 student-teacher ratio, ensuring each child receives the attention they deserve. This small class size fosters meaningful relationships between students and educators, maximizing engagement and academic success.
“Whether a student is accelerating through coursework, in need of additional academic support, or navigating social-emotional challenges, LPS is committed to meeting them where they are,” said Williamson.
Understanding that today’s families need options, LPS is investing in before and after school care programs designed to support working parents and provide extended enrichment opportunities for students, according to Williamson. “From homework help to extracurricular clubs, these programs will offer a safe, engaging space for students beyond the school day,” said Williamson.
LPS is also expanding its alternative education and flexible learning programs, ideal for students who need non-traditional schedules or customized academic pathways. Whether balancing a job, family obligations, or unique learning styles, students will find options that fit their needs.
Williamson said the district’s mission is clear: “To empower, inspire, and challenge students to champion a lifetime of education and excellence.”
Williamson said, “We believe in nurturing the whole child - academically, socially, and emotionally - while preparing them for success beyond graduation. Our engaging curriculum, and college and career readiness programs are designed to ensure students are ready for their next step, whether it's college, skilled trades, the military, or the workforce.”
He concluded, “At Lawrence Public Schools, we’re more than a district - we're a family. With our ‘Small Schools, Big Opportunity’ approach, students receive individualized attention in a supportive environment that champions their potential.”
