Family Education Rights and Privacy Act
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1975 gives parents/guardians of an eighteen year old or younger student the right to review their student's educational records. This may be done by contacting the school for an appointment. The school may not disclose information in a student’s record without prior consent of the parent, guardian, or adult student, except in the case of directory information such as used in honor roll acknowledgements, athletic programs, school newspapers, and yearbooks. Directory information could include a student’s name, address, dates of school attendance, participation in school activities, and honors/awards. Annual Education Report
The Annual Education Report (AER) for all school buildings within the district is available online at: www.lawrencetigers.org
Printed copies are also available at the Central Office and in the main office of each school building. The Annual Education Report provides key information on the 2022-2023 educational progress for Lawrence Public Schools and also addresses the complex reporting information required by Federal Law and some requirements of State Laws. Personal Curriculum
The Personal Curriculum is a process to modify specific graduation credit requirements and/or content expectations based on the individual learning needs of a student. It is designed to serve students who want to accelerate or go beyond the MMC requirements and students who need to individualize learning requirements to meet the MMC requirements for high school graduation. The parent or guardian of a student for whom a personal curriculum is sought, or the student (if age of majority) or an emancipated minor may request a personal curriculum.
A personal curriculum may be requested prior to 9th grade for a student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), with the earliest implementation at the start of 9th grade. For students without an IEP, a request for a PC is allowable after the student has completed 9th grade. To request a Personal Curriculum, please contact Lawrence Jr. Sr. High School (269-674-8232).
Title I School-Lawrence Elementary
Your child currently attends a school that receives funds from the Title I, Part A program. Title I, Part A is a federal supplemental program designed to help children reach high academic standards. In receiving funds from this program the district has a requirement to inform you, as parents of children attending a Title I school, of information available to you regarding the professional qualifications for your child’s classroom teacher(s).
Information will be provided to you upon request and in a timely manner of the following:
➢ Whether your child’s teacher has met Michigan qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
➢ Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which Michigan qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.
➢ The baccalaureate degree major of your child’s teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
➢ Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
You may request additional information on the level of achievement of your child in each of Michigan’s assessments. You will also receive timely notice if your child is, for whatever reason, assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified. A highly qualified teacher would be defined as a teacher that meets Michigan’s qualification and licensing criteria for the grade level or subject area in which the teacher is providing instruction.
Notice of Pesticide Applications
As part of Lawrence Public Schools’ Pest Management Program, lawn treatment and/or pesticides are occasionally applied. In compliance with the Department of Agriculture, Pesticide and Plant Management Division, Regulation No. 637, the Lawrence Public Schools District is providing notification of any pesticide applications made to the school buildings and grounds. This notice is intended to serve as prior notification of future pesticide application to Lawrence grounds. In most instances, notice will be sent prior to application of pesticides. However, in certain emergencies, lawn treatment and pesticides may be applied without prior notice, however, notifications will be sent following applications.
